Become a Leader. There are more of us than you think.

Why should I become a Leader in Journey To Manhood?

  • I like to take risks.
  • I am wise beyond my years.
  • I want to make a difference in the world.
  • I know how to lead and want to do more of it.
  • I feel the drive to bring the best that I have to others.
  • I want to be recognized for the contributions I make to others.
  • I want to belong to a community where I can lead regardless of my age.

  • What kind of Leaders does J2M have?
Journey to Manhood is led by men and JourneyMen (JMen), of a wide age range. Our youngest leader is a JMan who stepped into his leadership role at age 15. Our eldest leader is approaching his eighth decade of life. Leaders for TPI come from a variety of cultures, backgrounds and income levels. Leading for J2M isn’t about how old you are, where you came from, or what grades or salary you make. Moving up in leadership status and responsibility is done by taking the personal risks needed to serve others so much that the community recognizes your leadership ability and trusts you to lead.

What do leaders do for J2M?
Journey to Manhood is led by men and JMen, serving in many roles. During the RPAWs, JGroups and RockStarCamps, there is a Leader Team that runs the events. Some of these men come from other communities around the country; some are former JMen – now recognized as young men – who have been through all the J2M processes and are ready to BRING IT for the benefit of others; and some are JMen that have done a year’s worth of work and are ready to help train men to be better mentors and help boys take their first step on their journey to manhood.

Leaders from J2M have gone and will go from coast to coast and in between training other mentoring communities – including Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Washington D.C. – in the initiation and ongoing mentoring processes used here in Colorado. New mentoring communities developing in other countries – including Canada, England, France and South Africa – will soon provide opportunities for leaders from J2M to benefit others and themselves.

How do I join the Leader Team?
The first step is to join J2M by sending in a background check (see below). Once you have that, then it’s time to step up: Sign-up for a Mentor Training or RockStarCamp, apply to staff an RPAW, and attend JGroups. Once you have seen and felt how it all goes together, then it’s time to take a risk. You’ll know when you’re ready.

    How do I join J2M?
All Mentors have been subjected to state and national criminal background checks.
Download Background Check Application Forms to start the process. Once a year has passed, the JMen can elect to continue with Journey to Manhood up until their 18th birthday at which time they are ceremonially recognized as men. To continue on with Journey to Manhood, the young man must pass a Background Check and be willing to participate as a mentor.

How do I staff the RPAW?

If you are interested in Staffing our next RPAW and you have already passed your Background Check or you have staffed before, then download the RPAW Staffing Application Forms to start the process.

If you are a JourneyMan (between ages 12-17 yrs and have attended an RPAW) and interested in Staffing our next RPAW, then download the RPAW JMan Staffing Application Forms to start the process.

JMen that wish to staff an RPAW will go through a screening process that includes an Elder Interview and mandatory acts of service. Once these requirements are met, JMen can attend an RPAW and help lead the process to initiate more boys into their journey to manhood.

Once a year has passed, the JMen can elect to continue with Threshold Passages up until their 18th birthday at which time they are ceremonially recognized as men. To continue on with Threshold Passages, the young man must pass a BackGround Check and be willing to participate as a mentor.
